Play Skate Rust in Your Browser
Skate Rust is an independent browser skateboarding project, not a port of any commercial game and not tied to a big studio. It runs in the tab with no install, and the link here goes straight to the game rather than the community hub that hosts it. Everything is a link out to the original project, which we do not host.

What is Skate Rust?
The project appeared in 2025 as a browser-first skateboarding idea rather than a remake of anything on console. Its engine is written for WebGL, which means the board, ramps and parks render directly in the browser without plugins. Because there is no 2010 console game underneath it, the trick list, spots and physics are the developer's own design rather than a copy of a familiar series.
First impressions depend on how much of the project is finished at the moment you visit. Independent browser games often ship in slices, so a park might be polished while another area is still blocked off or empty. Load times are usually short because there is no large game archive to fetch, though a weak graphics chip will still show in the frame rate.
Think of it as a small, evolving skate toy: roll around, hunt lines, try to hold a combo. There are no cutscenes, no career ladder and no storefront waiting at the end of the ramp. If you like the feel of a WebGL skateboarding sandbox and you are happy to revisit as it grows, this is aimed at you.
How to play Skate Rust in your browser
- Load the Skate Rust page and give the WebGL scene a moment to appear
- Click the canvas so the board responds to your keyboard
- Push with the forward key and steer with left and right to build speed
- Hold the ollie key near a ledge, then flick a trick key in the air
- Land with the board flat and keep rolling into the next obstacle
- Reset with the respawn key when you end up stuck against geometry
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| W A S D | Push and steer the board |
| Space | Ollie over gaps and onto ledges |
| Arrow left / right | Spin and flick tricks in the air |
| Shift | Crouch before a jump for extra pop |
| Mouse | Swing the camera around the skater |
| R | Respawn at the nearest start point |
Controls can differ between builds. Most of these games let you rebind keys from their own settings menu, and you can press Esc to release the mouse pointer.
Tips for Skate Rust
- Pump before a ramp instead of tapping late, the timing gives you the height for a clean trick.
- Watch the landing angle, an uneven board usually ends the run against the pavement.
- Lower the shadow and detail options if the scene stutters, WebGL reacts well to small cuts.
- Practice one ledge until the ollie timing is automatic, then move to a taller obstacle.
- Come back after a few weeks if a spot is unfinished, solo projects change quickly.
- Use a mouse with a scroll wheel if camera zoom is bound, wide views help line up approaches.

Skate Rust FAQ
Is Skate Rust free to play in a browser?
At the moment it is open to anyone who loads the page, with no fee, no download and no account step. Independent projects can change how they are funded later, so check the site itself for anything new before you rely on that.
Is Skate Rust a port of a console skateboarding game?
No. It is an independent browser project with its own engine and its own take on skate physics. Nothing in it is licensed from another publisher, so do not expect the levels, skaters or trick names of a retail game.
Can I play Skate Rust on a phone or tablet?
The project is aimed at desktop browsers with a keyboard, and touch input has no real equivalent for holding a crouch while flicking a trick. Small screens also make it hard to read the park layout ahead of you.
Why is Skate Rust stuttering or showing a blank canvas?
WebGL needs a working graphics driver, so a blank canvas usually means hardware acceleration is off or the driver needs an update. Stutter is more often the scene itself, so drop the quality settings and close other tabs before giving up.
Do I need to make an account to skate?
No sign-up is required to open the page and roll around. If the developer adds saved runs or leaderboards later, that would be the point where an optional account appears, and it should stay optional.
Does Skate Rust support a game controller?
That depends on whether the current build reads the browser Gamepad API. A wired pad is the safest bet if it does, since the sticks suit trick flicks better than keys, but keep the keyboard within reach as a fallback.
